There are many reasons, first of all to experience the atmosphere, history and beauty of this international city, home to the most beautiful architecture and museums in the world. The cradle of the Renaissance, where man is placed at the center of the world, with his beauty and his strength. Fashion was born here, the finest fabrics in Europe were produced here, the style has been defined in art, architecture and aesthetics.
It is February 12, 1951, and the first fashion show in Italy is held here when France still dominates unchallenged with its style and creations. Names that made history take part: Carosa, Fabiani, Simonetta, Schubert, Fontana, Veneziani, Noberasko, Marucelli, Pucci, Gallotti. Shortly after the other big names will come: Armani, Valentino, Versace, Prada, Moschino, Dolce and Gabbana and many others. Since 1952, fashion shows have been held in the Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti, one of the most beautiful ballrooms in Europe, decorated in 1775 by Grato and Giocondo Albertolli with neoclassical stuccoes and panoplies. Then, from 1982, in the great exhibition center of the Fortezza da Basso, in the center, between Renaissance architecture and large high-tech structures.
Important stylists such as Gucci, Coveri, Cavalli, Ferragamo, Patrizia Pepe, Emilio Pucci and many others have worked and still work here, and the city is home to many museums dedicated to fashion: the Ferragamo Museum, the Gucci Museum, the Capucci Museum, the Costume Museum, the Textile Museum and others. Along with tourism, fashion is the main economic activity of the entire Florentine area, populated by a myriad of companies, artisan workshops and start-ups that produce for the big brands: clothes, fabrics, accessories, leather goods, jewels and above all ideas. A world where there are great opportunities for work and interning.
In recent decades, many fashion schools and universities (the best!) settled in the city, already home to many foreign universities and international schools of all kinds. Virtually every educational path is now available, from short courses to three-year degrees and masters. Here is a list of the most important educational institutions in the field of fashion, which, however, must certainly be updated because they are constantly increasing:

SHORT-TERM COURSES
The short-term course of Fashion Design is a basic course for those who want to deal with the subject in a practical way. It can be considered an introduction to this magical and fascinating world. We start with the design of the human body, with the study of anatomy and the various positions that the body assumes. Then we learn to build the fashion figure on which fashion sketches and illustrations can be developed. Then the color, symbolism and theory (scales, contrast, harmony), the use of Pantone’s, colored pencils, watercolors and chalks. The fabrics and the techniques of their representation are examined. Finally, based on the knowledge acquired, a collection can be created by choosing and developing a theme.
Courses start every Monday and lessons are held in the afternoon: Monday to Friday from 3 pm to 7 pm.
The course is available in three modes:
- Basic Course (6 hours per week)
- Semi-intensive course (10 hours per week)
- Intensive course (20 hours per week)
The minimum enrollment is 2 weeks for the Basic and Semi-Intensive courses, 1 week for the Intensive course.
