Scenic spots on the hills around Turin: Superga

The basilica of Superga stands majestically on the hill overlooking the city. You can see the basilica from every corner of the city, even as soon as you arrive from the airport. If you are intrigued by this splendid building rich in art and history, it can be reached by car, bicycle or public transport.

Our students on the Dolce Vita programme  went there on a period cog-wheel called cremagliera which departs from the city: a truly unique and unforgettable experience!

Once you reach the hill, the view is breathtaking and the intertwining stories you discover are full of interesting and wonderful facts.

The Monte dei Cappuccini

Whilst walking through the streets of the city centre, if you head towards the Po River, you cannot fail to notice the Monte dei Cappuccini, located just above the famous Piazza Vittorio Veneto, slightly over 300 m above sea level.

Especially when the Luci d'artista light up the city with their splendid colours, curiosity might prompt you to reach this spot, from which you can admire the city and its beauty from above.

Once there, take the opportunity to visit the National Mountain Museum and take magnificent photos to be admired on instagram

The Tower of Palazzo Madama: one of Turin’s scenic spots?

Palazzo Madama is an important stop when discovering the city. The optional activities offered by Turin’s Scuola Leonardo include almost every week a visit to Palazzo Madama that always leaves our students speechless.

The entrance ticket includes a ride on its scenic lift: a surprising experience that especially on a fine day will allows you to see even the Mole!

The Mole: not just a city symbol

Not only is the Mole Antonelliana the symbol of the city: thanks to its lift (if you choose the stairs, there are 573 steps to climb!), which in less than a minute will take you to the temple-floor, 85 metres up, it is also one of the city’s scenic spots that you must visit.

Once you reach the top, you can have a 360° overview not only of the city but of the Alps, the mountain range that surrounds it: a view that will take your breath away!

When you decide to visit the Mole, make sure you also have time to visit the cinema museum and learn about the history of this unusual building - it's definitely worth it.

Piano 35: an unmissable scenic spot in Turin

With its almost 170 metres, the Intesa Sanpaolo skyscraper, recently built by architect Renzo Piano, is the third highest building in the city.

Inside the building, a symbol of modernity in the city, a very fast lift will take you to the famous Piano 35, a lounge bar and starred restaurant, from which you can enjoy a priceless view of the city.

Some of the students on our Dolce Vita programme have had this once-in-a-lifetime experience: the view of the city is from a bioclimatic greenhouse, surrounded by trees and plants that grow at a perfect temperature and in the light that comes in through the splendid windows.

The Faà di Bruno Belfry: one of the lesser-known scenic spots

The Faà di Bruno belfry is one of the less touristy but very interesting places in the city that we highly recommend you visit during your stay in Turin.

This unusual belfry was designed not by an architect but by a very important city mathematician: Francesco Faà di Bruno. It is a rather unique building, boasting a height of 75 metres, 14 floors, each different from the other, and 300 steps.

Once at the top, where once there was an astronomical observatory, it is still possible to enjoy a spectacular view of the city.

Classrooms with a view at the della Scuola Leonardo in Torino

If you enrol in our Italian language course for foreigners in Turin, in addition to the opportunity to discover a wonderful city, meet wonderful schoolmates and very competent teachers, and of course learn Italian in a comfortable and welcoming environment, you will also enjoy a fantastic view of the most beautiful and famous square in the city: Piazza San Carlo.

This square is appropriately referred to as the "city’s favourite parlour", thanks to its elegant buildings, such as the splendid Palazzo Turinetti, where our school is located, its historical cafés, its stylish shops, the two churches usually referred to as twins, even though they are not, of Santa Cristina and San Carlo and in the centre the statue of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, also known as the "bronze horse", or, in Piedmontese dialect, Caval ëd Bronz.

After this overview of the Turin’s scenic spots, you really must enrol in one of our Italian courses for foreigners at the Scuola Leonardo in Turin: you will learn Italian in one of the school’s scenic classrooms and will discover the whole city with us, not just its scenic spots!
