World Snow Day: Milano-Cortina 2026 Towards a Sustainable Future

Every year, on January 19th, the World Snow Day celebrates the magic and excitement of winter sports. Imagine finding yourself in the heart of the Winter Olympics, immersed in the beauty of the Dolomites as the world experiences a historic event.

2026 will mark an important milestone for Italy, which will host the Winter Olympics for the third time, after Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956 and Turin in 2006. But this time, it will be different: the Milano-Cortina Olympics will be the first “distributed” Olympics, with events taking place in different locations, from the stunning Dolomites to Milan.

Cortina and Milan are the two souls of the 2026 Olympics

The cities are preparing to welcome thousands of tourists, sports fans, and families, with a packed schedule of activities. One of the most anticipated events is the debut of ski mountaineering, with the athletes challenging themselves on some of the world’s most beautiful mountains.

Cortina will host the snowboarding, freestyle, and other snow disciplines, while Milan will be the heart of the ice competitions, with figure skating and curling.

On February 6th, 2026, Milan will kick off the Games with the opening ceremony at the legendary San Siro stadium. This event will also celebrate the stadium’s 100th anniversary, a true symbol of Milan’s sports heritage. It will be an unmissable event, featuring spectacular performances, the lighting of the Olympic flame, and the parade of athletes. After Expo 2020, which gave the city a new life, Milan is preparing to shine even brighter, with new sustainable buildings and an increasingly eco-friendly transport system. At the end of the Games, the magnificent Piazza del Duomo will host the closing ceremony of the Paralympics, wrapping up this unforgettable event.

Moving towards sustainability

The Milano-Cortina Olympics will not only be a showcase of incredible athletic performances but also an opportunity to engage and inspire.

The organizing committee has launched several initiatives to reduce the environmental impact. The Olympic structures will be built with eco-sustainable materials, designed to be reused even after the Games.

Additionally, to make it easier and more eco-friendly for everyone to participate, high-speed trains have been enhanced, allowing spectators and athletes to easily reach the Olympic venues without harming the environment. The Olympic venues will also be powered exclusively by renewable energy, such as solar power.

Milan and Cortina promise a unique experience, where sport, nature, and culture come together in an extraordinary event. Don’t miss this opportunity: the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are waiting for you to experience an adventure that will stay in everyone’s heart.
