Everything you need to know for the Olympic Winter Games 2026! 

Italy has been selected to host the Olympic winter games of 2026! And where other than in Milan, the most modern and globalized city of Italy? But it doesn’t stop there. This will be the  first time that 2 cities will host the winter games. Cortina d’Ampezzo will co-host the winter  games of 2026. 

When and where will the Winter Olympic games take place? 
The Olympic Winter Games will be held from Friday, February 6th 2026 until Sunday,  February 22nd 2026 in the Italian cities Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. This is the first time  ever that the Olympic Winter Games will be held in 2 cities at the same time. 

The Paralympic winter games will be held from March 6th 2026 to March 15th 2026. 

Some info to keep in mind! 
Italy has already hosted Olympic Winter Games two times, but the third time will be a special  event, because the cities will form the biggest Olympic Winter Games location ever. Cortina d’Ampezzo will become the “gym” and home for the best ski and winter athletes all  around the world. There will also be a new Olympic sport added to the winter games of 2026:  Ski mountaineering. Several indoor sports will be played in Milan, like figure skating and  short track. These competitions will be held in the Milano Hockey Arena. 

How many countries will participate in the Olympics? 
93 countries will get the opportunity to show off their athletes on the biggest stage of all: the  Olympic Winter Games. 

The opening ceremony in San Siro 
The opening ceremony, with the athletes’ parade and the lighting of the Olympic torch, will be  held in Milan at the San Siro stadium, home of two of the best football teams of Italy: AC  Milan and Inter Milan. The closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games will be held in the  Arena di Verona in the stunning Verona. 

The opening of the paralympic winter games will be held in the Arena di Verona as well, while  the closing ceremony will be held at the Piazza del Duomo in Milan. 

A cute way to announce Mascots! 
The mascots were created by boys and girls from all over Italy and everyone in Italy was able  to vote on which mascot they liked the most!

The ambassadors of the Olympic will be: 

  • Deborah Compagnoni: she is a retired Olympic alpine skiing champion. Frederica Pellegrini: she is a retired Olympic swimming champion. 
  • Bebe Vio: she is a Paralympic fencing champion. 
  • Francesco Totti: he is a retired professional footballer. 
  • Cristiana Capotondi: She is an Italian actress
