The best Gelaterias in Florence

Florence is not only known for its art, architecture, and history, but also for its legendary ice cream! There are many ice cream parlors in the city, but some of them are absolute classics. Here we present five well-known ice cream parlors, some of which are considered the best by the Florentines themselves.

- Vivoli

One of Italy’s oldest ice cream parlors, founded in the 1930s. The Vivoli family has been making ice cream according to traditional recipes for almost 100 years, without any artificial additives. If you’re looking for authentic handmade ice cream, this is the place for you.

- La Carraia

The ice cream parlor is located directly on the Arno River, very close to the Ponte alla Carraia bridge. Large portions, fair prices, and especially creamy flavors make it a favorite among many students. Popular flavors are pistachio, white chocolate and cookies.

- Gelateria de’ Medici

This gelateria opened in 1997 and is named after the Medici family. It is particularly well known for its creative and refined varieties such as fig, chestnut, and honey. A real tip for anyone who wants to try something special.

- Cavini

This rather unknown but very authentic gelateria is located slightly off the tourist trail and offers homemade ice cream with regional ingredients. Small, friendly, and very popular with many locals. A real insider tip!

- Badiani

Badiani was founded in 1932 and is now one of the most modern ice cream parlors in Florence, with locations even in London and Barcelona. Badiani became famous for its “Buontalenti” flavor, named after the Florentine architect. This flavor is super creamy, without any added flavors, and is made with eggs, milk, cream, and sugar.
