Take advantage of the month of October, the truffle month, to have some unforgettable experiences in Piedmont. In October, if you choose the Scuola Leonardo da Vinci school in Turin, in addition to our Italian courses, you can take advantage of the countless opportunities to taste the original Alba truffle in your kitchen, at the truffle fair and directly in the field, with the dogs and the trifolao, the truffle pickers.
Piedmont is one of the regions in Italy where truffles are found, in particular Alba’s White Truffle, the well-known delicacy. It is, therefore, the ideal time to have some authentic experiences and practise your Italian in real contexts.
Alba’s International Truffle Fair
From 10 October to 6 December 2026, the 96th International Alba White Truffle Fair will be held with events and tastings of all kinds and an international audience that will descend on the Langhe and Monferrato areas for the event of the year.
In addition to tasting the typical dishes, at the fair you can also buy your favorite piece of truffle directly, to eat immediately or to take home as a souvenir.
Of course, at this time, not only the local Michelin starred restaurants but also trattorias, inns and wine bars offer classic truffle menus.
Typical dishes with the Alba’s white truffle and where to try them
Do you know which typical Piedmontese dishes you can pair with Alba’s white truffle and where you can try them?
First of all, don't miss out on the Piedmontese Fassona tartare, the tajarin with 40 egg yolks cut with a knife and a fried egg. Sometimes even desserts such as vanilla ice cream or vanilla crème brulée are enriched with slices of fresh truffle. In short, as you may have understood, truffles go very well with eggs. A real delicacy!
As well as in the Langhe, here are some additional addresses, where you can try this ingredient, the king of the kitchen! In Turin, many restaurants and the typical Turin piole offer truffle menus in season. However, in the centre, not far from the Scuola Leonardo da Vinci, there is Tabui, the restaurant where trufflea are the real protagonists all year round. The name itself, in fact, is that of a truffle-hunting dog, an animal gifted with a most sensitive sense of smell.
It is also possible to experience truffle menus with the typical dishes of the Piedmontese tradition in lesser-known and less touristy areas. One of our favorite places is the Del Monte restaurantin Colleretto Giacosa, which among other things is strategically placed, not far from the Ivrea motorway exit, easy for those coming from the Aosta Valley and therefore from France and Switzerland and also for those coming from Turin and Milan for a trip out of town.
Authentic experiences
Finally, if you want to treat yourself to a special, once-in-a-lifetime experience, you can contact one of the trifolao who offer this experience to visitors and tourists directly: you will walk with him and his dog in search of truffles in the woods of the Langhe and Monferrato, both UNESCO heritage sites.
Why don’t you book your Italian course in October? There are only a few places left at the Scuola Leonardo! Hurry up, before the places run out! In addition to grammar and conversation hours at various levels, the school offers numerous weekly activities for your free time: an excellent opportunity to discover the area, the local history and culture and meet new people.
