With the pandemic apparently coming to an end, the city of Milan is finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel and is getting ready to host again the world’s most anticipated design event: the Design Week 2022!
The Design Week has two equally important cores: the Salone del Mobile, a furniture fair taking place in the
outskirts of the city, and the Fuorisalone, which, on the contrary, brightens up the city centre with hundreds of exclusive events, exhibitions and cultural initiatives.
In the week from June 7th to June 12th, the Fuorisalone is like heaven on Earth for all design addicts. Events are usually hosted in showrooms scattered all over the city – some of them are free, and others are invitation-only. However, the vibrant atmosphere permeates every single alleyway!
Here are the 5 districts you don’t want to miss during Design Week 2022:
Brera
Traditionally, Brera is the artistic heart of the city: during the Fuorisalone, there is literally something going on behind every doorstep. Get lost in its alleyways maze and just follow your heart!
Cinque Vie
The oldest district in Milan teems with fascinating historic mansions and hidden secret gardens.
Palazzo Litta and Palazzo Turati are always a must-see in this area, next to the newcomer German brand Pulpo, which debuts with its unique exhibition inside a former bank!
Tortona
The whole district just screams innovation. Renovation. Internationalization.
A former industrial area, via Tortona has recently become one of the trendiest areas in Milan and a benchmark for international design.
The Superstudio, a huge exhibition space, hosts, as usual, at least a dozen different exhibitions: from art gardens to 3D printing!
Finally, don’t miss the Floating Forest by Stefano Boeri over the Darsena canal!
Duomo e San Babila
Of course, the most central area of Milan is packed with events and showrooms.
Among the dozens of events, we cannot recommend the cloisters installations at the University of Milan enough, which every year charm thousands of visitors.
You also don’t want to miss the collective event Design Variations, taking place in two stunning locations:
the Centro Filologico Milanese, the oldest cultural institiuon in Milan, and the rococo Palazzo Visconti.
Porta Venezia
The queer district offers a few interesting events inside its breath-taking liberty buildings: after a visit to Palazzo Serbelloni, where the Tom Dixon event is held, make sure you spare a couple of hours to tour this gorgeous area!
The city is already buzzing: what do you look forward to the most?
