La Rotonda della Besana

You enter this particular place and suddenly you feel like you are surrounded by magic; it's almost like being under some kind of a spell. The buzz of the traffic in Milan and the noise of horns and tires that accompanied you just a few minutes ago all seem so far away now. The only sound that you can hear is the one coming from the water drops of the small fountain. You are overcome by a sensation of complete calm. Just a few steps from the centre of Milan, this is the peaceful oasis called la Rotonda della Besana. Here you can lose the perception of time and space, temporarily forgetting the stress and rush of the metropolis, a place where you can forget to be in Milan for a while.

La Rotonda is a late-baroque style building from the beginning of the eighteenth century.  It is comprised of a deconsecrated church, a unique circular porch where you can take long strolls, and a marvellous garden. Since its beginnings La Rotonda has been used for different purposes, each related to a different historical period.

Today La Rotonda is a beautiful public place that is often used for art and cultural events. During the summer there is an open-air cinema; all year long it hosts interesting exhibitions. This summer, from July 14 until the end of September, it's possible to see an exhibition dedicated to Conrad Marca-Relli, the great representative of abstract expressionism whose masterpieces are also exhibited in the Moma gallery in New York and in the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. The price of a ticket is 5 Euro and the exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 09:30 am till 07:30 pm (10:30 pm on Thursday).

The address is Via della Barnaba, Milan.
